CASE STUDY

Public Art Installation, Metropolitan Redevelopment Area

Brian Mackin and Counterbalance Sculpture were commissioned by the Kitsap County Arts Board to create site-specific pieces for installation in the new Norm Dicks Government Center.  The building, located in downtown Bremerton, Washington, was the first major new construction to be completed as a part of the city’s downtown metropolitan area redevelopment plan.  The commissioned artists received funding from the local 1% For The Arts budget, and priority was placed on selecting unique artwork created by established regional artists.

The commission involved creating two large egg-and-flute sculptures for the building's main floor lobby. Flanked by glass on three sides, the installation's 84" and 70" high Egg and Flutes create a striking impact against the soaring 20-foot ceilings and lobby's floor to ceiling glass windows.
